Your data & backups

Everything the app saves stays on your PC, in plain files. Export it all in one file to move to another PC.

Where it's saved

Everything is in %APPDATA%\moe.lenn.shiori\ (paste that in the Explorer address bar). Before version 2.2.0, it was %APPDATA%\moe.lenn.vnrpc-tauri\.

FileWhat
config.yamlApp settings.
games\<title>.yamlOne file per VN: time read, history, status, cover, privacy. Safe to edit or rename.
cache\VNDB results, covers and screenshot thumbnails. Safe to delete.
backups\What you had before each import (see below).
mascots\The mascot images you added on the Mascots page.

Screenshots are saved separately, in Pictures\Shiori RPC\<VN title>\ by default. If you already have a Pictures\Visual Novel RPC\ folder, the app keeps using it.

Close the app (tray icon → Quit) before editing these files by hand.

Coming from Visual Novel RPC

On its first launch, version 2.2.0 copies everything from %APPDATA%\moe.lenn.vnrpc-tauri\ into %APPDATA%\moe.lenn.shiori\ and leaves the original untouched. Once you're happy with the new version, you can delete the old folder.

Coming from 1.x

Versions 1.x kept their data in %APPDATA%\VisualNovelRPC\. On its first launch, version 2.0 copies it into its own folder and leaves the original untouched. Once you're happy with 2.0, you can delete the old folder. See also Install → Coming from version 1.x.

Export

In Settings → General → Your data, click Export…. You get one .zip (e.g. ShioriRPC-backup-2026-10-08.zip) with your settings, the Library (time read, history, statuses) and custom covers.

The export includes your VNDB token. Don't share the file. Screenshots and your own mascots aren't included: copy their folders separately if you want them.

Import, or move to a new PC

  1. Export on the old PC and copy the .zip over.
  2. On the new PC, run the app, then Settings → General → Your data → Import… and pick the .zip.
  3. Click Replace. Your settings and Library are replaced by the ones in the file.

Nothing is lost by importing: what you had before is saved first in the backups\ folder, and can be imported back the same way. A backup made by a newer version of the app can't be imported: update the app first.

If a game is installed somewhere else on the new PC, Play says it can't find it and offers to locate it: point it to the game's .exe once.
