Desktop mascot
Optional characters on your desktop, ukagaka style, who comment on what you read. One, or several at once.
Turn it on
Open the Mascots page in the sidebar and turn on Show on desktop, or just click a mascot. She appears standing on the taskbar, near the right edge of your main screen.
What she does
She reacts in a speech balloon when you start a VN, reach a new chapter or route, take a screenshot, go idle, come back, or close the game. The balloon never takes the focus, so it doesn't interrupt your game. With several mascots out, one of them speaks each time.

- Click a mascot to put it on your desktop, click it again to take it off. Pick several to have them all at once. The ones on your desktop are outlined and say On your desktop.
- Add a mascot…: use your own character, as a PNG, WebP or GIF. A PNG with a transparent background looks best. The image is copied into the app's data, so you can move or delete the original. It goes on your desktop right away.
- Size: each mascot has its own slider, from 120 to 1200 pixels high (420 by default).
- Remove deletes one of your own mascots (click twice to confirm). The Default one can't be removed.
- Show on desktop (top right) shows or hides them all at once.
Options
- Speech balloons: turn off for silent mascots.
- Keep them above other windows: off by default, so they stay on the desktop, behind your windows.
- Put them back in the corner: if one got lost off-screen.
The desktop mascot used to be in Settings → General. Since 2.1 it has its own page. If you had set your own character image, it's already in the list.
Mouse
- Drag a mascot anywhere. Each one remembers where you left it.
- Click it for a reaction.
- Double-click to open the app.
- Right-click for a menu: Open Shiori RPC, Random VN from my wishlist and Hide this mascot.
Any PNG with transparency works. Empty margins around the character are cropped automatically, then it's scaled to the size you set.
